Earlier saw release of new images from the latest issue of Empire Magazine of The Avengers, and now we have a few details from the feature article.

It’s been long said that the Skrulls are the aliens that assist Loki in invading the Earth; however, the validity of that has been questioned as it is thought that Fox may hold the rights to the shape-shifting beings from another planet, as it might be packaged with the Fantastic Four

Regardless, Marvel Studios President and Producer, Kevin Feige, shot down the notion of the Skrulls and even states the race of aliens isn’t that important.

Who said they were aliens?” he teases.

“Beings from the Nine Realms, then?” ventures Empire.

“Closer…It’s not Skrulls, I’ve been clear about that. Beyond that, we want to hide it. The identity of the alien race is not impactful. It exists in the comic books, but we’re not setting up the Kree-Skrull war or anything like that.”

Likewise, there has been a rumor that the Red Skull may appear in the movie as a Red Skull HeroClix figure is associated with an Avengers movie toy line. Feige shoots that down as well, with director Josh Whedon playing coy.

“Was Skull vaporised at the end of the movie, or thrust into another realm?” asks Feige. “That remains to be seen. It would be fun to see Skull in future, but he’s not in this one.”

Whedon though is a little more circumspect when Empire confronts him. “I do have a comment on that,” he says, before pulling a move worthy of Loki himself. “It’s…oh, you’re breaking up!”

Hmm…not the Skrulls or by the sounds if it even the Kree? The most recent rumor I think I have heard is of the Rigelians. Any ideas?

Maybe Feige and Whedon are just trying to fool us.
