While speaking with the foreign press about Captain America: Civil War, Anthony and Joe Russo were asked about Black Panther and Spider-Man, with it brought up the characters are similar in that they aren’t directly connected to The Avengers. The Russo brothers talk about the sides the characters may or may not choose in addition to letting it be known when Spider-Man gets introduced in the film.

“They both have a special place in Civil War because of the reasons you’re saying,” Anthony Russo offered. “They don’t fall neatly into either side.”

“For the emotional reasons that Tony and Cap do,” Joe Russo added.

On Black Panther:

“Black Panther is one of our favorite characters in the movie because he is on his own side in this film,” Anthony Russo said. “He’s not aligned with either side, and he has his own road forward with the movie that’s very central to the plot of the film – like he’s very invested emotionally – but it doesn’t fall into clean sides.”

On Spider-Man:

“Spider-Man, similarly, enters the movie after the Avengers pick sides,” Anthony Russo continued. “He doesn’t have a huge investment politically, but he develops a very personal relationship why he picks a side. I won’t talk about the personal relationship he develops. It’s very interesting. Very Cool. One of the most special parts of the movie.”

The Russo’s also smiled and responded “I don’t know” when asked if we’ll ever get a glimpse of Spider-Man before Captain America: Civil War.

“Who knows. Who can say,” Joe Russo teased with a grin.

“Captain America: Civil War” has a May 6, 2016 release date directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Emily VanCamp, William Hurt, Martin Freeman and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.
