Good news? In a new interview, Anthony Carrigan, who plays the villain Metamorpho, teases that James Gunn’s Superman movie isn’t exactly like his Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy films.
Gunn went a goofier route with his Guardians movies than the source material. It worked because most fans weren’t that familiar with Guardians of the Galaxy. The films also brought something fresh to the MCU at the time.
However, Superman is a different story. He’s one of the most well known characters of all time. Gunn also follows the Zack Snyder DCEU which took the opposite approach that Gunn went with his Marvel movies.

“Has the same heart and intelligence”
In an interview with THR, when asked what the tone of the Superman movie is like and if it’s comparable to Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies, Carrigan offered they are not exactly the same:
“I am hesitant to liken it to Guardians, but I do think that [Superman] has the same heart and intelligence. That’s James’ trademark. But I think it’s going to be its own thing entirely,” Carrigan says. “The process of working on it was such a special one, and the whole cast was on board with bringing something really special to it. So, hopefully, that’s conveyed onscreen.”
Following the release of his Creature Commandos animated series, Gunn came under fire from some critics who claim he always uses the same formula. Recent rumors from test screenings offer mixed reactions. Some say the Superman movie is a disaster full of goofy jokes, while more recent reports suggest the new cuts and edits strike a better balance between the humor and seriousness.
