It’s now claimed that James Gunn’s Superman “delivers” which is in stark contrast to earlier claims that the movie is terrible. For what it’s worth, my Comic-Con insiders told me last summer that the footage Gunn has shot is also good.
It’s further claimed that the runtime for the flick might be revealed, which no surprise, lines up with Gunn’s previous DC and Marvel movies. The new trailer also might be dropping soon.
What is said about James Gunn’s Superman?
The new claims about Gunn’s Man of Steel flick come again via Jeff Sneider who just last month blasted the Superman movie. However, now Sneider – or at least his “insiders”- have changed their tune. The good news is that it’s said Gunn’s film seems to be a balance between being goofy and on the serious side of things:
“I spoke to someone this weekend who has seen ‘Superman,’ and they really liked it. They said David Corenswet delivers as the Man of Steel and that the ‘jokey moments’ I mentioned on my podcast, ‘The Hot Mic,’ were initially viewed out of context, but worked much better within the flow of the edit. They compared it to how Gunn balanced the humor and the drama in ‘The Suicide Squad,’ saying it has genuinely funny moments but it also knows when to drop the shtick and get serious.”
It’s been claimed that Gunn has been screen-testing the movie, so perhaps they are getting where they want to be with the final edit.
What is the Superman runtime?
Sneider claims the Superman runtime is currently at 2 hours, 20 minutes (140 minutes), which pretty much lines up with The Suicide Squad (132m).
Guardians of the Galaxy 3 comes in at 150m, Vol 2 at 136m, and the first one at 122m.
Marketing should be kicking off with new trailer
As the film is less than four months away, Warner Bros. should begin marketing it soon. It’s thought Gunn and the cast will be at CinemaCon, which runs from March 31st to April 3rd.
According to reports, Warner Bros. will have a presentation at CinemaCon on Tuesday, April 1st. It seems likely CinemaCon will be where the next Superman trailer is released.
