Following David S. Goyer revealing that he and Guillermo Del Toro were developing a Star Wars movie about Jabba the Hut, Del Toro reveals additional details.
Speaking with Collider, Guillermo Del Toro reveals his take on the powerful crime lord from Tatooine, which would have been about the rise and fall of Jabba.
“We had the rise and fall of Jabba the Hutt, so I was super happy,” Del Toro said. “We were doing a lot of stuff, and then it’s not my property, it’s not my money, and then it’s one of those 30 screenplays that goes away. Sometimes I’m bitter, sometimes I’m not. I always turn to my team and say, ‘Good practice, guys. Good practice. We designed a great world. We designed great stuff. We learned.’”
Regarding why it never happened, it’s thought to not have happened due to both The Last Jedi and Solo not being successful which saw Disney pull back on Star Wars, as still 5 years later, Disney doesn’t have a new Star Wars movie in the works.
“You can never be ungrateful with life. Whatever life sends you, there’s something to be learned from it,” he explained. “So, you know, I trust the universe, I do. When something doesn’t happen, I go, ‘Why?’ I try to have a dialogue with myself. ‘Why didn’t it happen?’ And the more you swim upstream with the universe, the less you’re gonna realize where you’re going.”

Regarding what David S. Goyer had to say, Goyer, who helped write the Christopher Nolan Batman movies and wrote Zack Snyder’s Superman Man of Steel, appeared recently on the Happy Sad Confused podcast talking about the project, which saw del Toro confirm on Twitter.
“I wrote an unproduced ‘Star Wars’ movie that Guillermo del Toro was going to direct… That was about four years ago,” said Goyer.
Goyer added, “There was just a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff going on at Lucasfilm at the time, but it’s a cool script… There’s a lot of cool artwork from it that was produced.”
Del Toro confirmed and teased in a tweet, “True. Can’t say much. Maybe two letters “J” and “BB” is that three letters?”
