Marvel Turned Down Original Blade Writer’s Offer For Help

In a follow-up to the story from just last week, it’s learned that Marvel turned down original Blade writer, David S. Goyer’s offer for help on the Mahershala Ali reboot that has been in development hell for six years.

Goyer: “They Think They’ve Cracked It” with Blade

This time, while speaking with Variety, Goyer reveals he actually had his agent contact Marvel about the new Blade movie. However, Goyer, says Marvel said they didn’t want his help.

“It’s so funny, about eight months ago — when, not the latest hiccup hit, but like the prior hiccup — I had so many people that would say to me, ‘Dude, would you get in there on “Blade?” Would you just get in there?,’ whether it be friends or fans or people on social media,” said Goyer.

According to Goyer, Marvel told him they finally got Blade right.

“And I wasn’t even really thinking about it, but then I had my agent call Marvel and say, ‘Do you guys need any help?’ And they said, ‘We love you, but we think we’ve cracked it now, and we’re in a good place.’ And then the latest thing happened. And so no, they haven’t contacted me,” Goyer said.

Goyer said he’s not sure what’s going on behind the scenes with the latest Blade project, but mentioned he’d “consider” writing the script if Marvel reached out, despite being mostly done with superhero films.

Blade not hard to get right

While recently speaking with Josh Horowitz, Goyer said it isn’t hard to get Blade right.

” I think Blade is a relatively simple story. It’s not complicated,” he said. “It should have insane ass kicking, it should be pretty scary, might be R-rated, and it should not be complicated. It should be a simple story.”

What’s going on with Blade?

Regarding the MCU’s Blade reboot, there is still no release date. Various reports offer that the problems involve the script, which at one time was said to be a period piece set in the 1920s about Blade’s daughter, to go with Kevin Feige’s approach post-Endgame. Recent reports now say the film takes place in modern times.
