The Batman snubbed by the Oscars says legendary cinematographer
The Batman was nominated in three categories: Best Sound, Best Visual Effects, and Best Makeup and Hairstyling, where the film by Matt Reeves failed to win in any category.
However, one Oscar winner thinks The Batman got even more screwed by the Oscars as the flick wasn’t nominated for Best Cinematography, which was won Sunday night by James Friend for Netflix’s WWI movie, All Quiet on the Western Front.
Roger Deakins, who is the legendary British two-time Oscar-winning cinematographer for Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 and Sam Mendes’ 1917 and who has been nominated 16 times for Oscars, thinks The Batman was snubbed.
“The best cinematography hasn’t been nominated,” he filled in Deadline Sunday night. “It’s The Batman. That’s the best work in my view,” he said, adding the work of Reeves’ cinematographer, Greig Fraser, has “extraordinary” visual flair.
Deakins continued, “The reason it wasn’t is pure and simple: snobbery. There’s this unfair tendency to avoid the Marvel universe and the other popular universes.”
Deakins also said the cinematographer on Top Gun: Maverick, Claudio Miranda, also deserved a nomination, and credit to Deakins, he rejected woke suggestions that Claudio Miranda or any female cinematographer should win just because they are females.
“It comes down to the work. Good work is good work whatever the genre,” he said. “It’s about the work, not the gender but it has to be backed up by the work.”

Regarding Best Supporting Actress, that was won by Jamie Lee Curtis for the multiverse movie, Everything Everywhere All at Once, which cleaned house at the Oscars with seven wins also including Best Picture.

“Hey Auntie…” Jordan started off by saying as he echoed his dialogue from 2018’s Black Panther where he played Erik Killmonger who introduced himself to Bassett’s Queen Ramonda in the same way (via Variety).
Jonathan Majors finished up with “…We love you,” as Majors (Marvel’s Kang) and Angela Bassett both went to the Yale School of Drama, and Majors worked with her husband, Courtney B. Vance, in HBO’s Lovecraft Country.
Worth a mention is that Ruth E. Carter won Best Costume Design for Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, marking the first time a black woman has won an Oscar two times.

Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight biggest Oscars snub
Comic book movies are known to have gotten snubbed, as probably the biggest comic book movie Oscars snub was for Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight which failed to be nominated for Best Picture (winner: Slumdog Millionaire).
The flick won for Best Supporting Actor, which was awarded posthumously to the late Heath Ledger, and won for Best Sound, and was also nominated for Best Cinematography (Slumdog Millionaire), Best Editing (Slumdog Millionaire), Best Art Direction (Curious Case of Benjamin Button), Best Makeup (Curious Case of Benjamin Button), Best Sound Mixing (Slumdog Millionaire), and Best Visual Effects (Curious Case of Benjamin Button).
Warner Bros also released a 100-year anniversary clip that features Heath Ledger as the Joker, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Batman, Superman, and more.
