Jared Leto confirms involvement with a new Tron movie from Disney as the actor posted confirmation on social media, which follows an earlier report about the news as well as rumors from back in July.
“I’m struck with such gratitude for the opportunity to bring this movie to life, especially as both the original video game and the film affected me so deeply as a young child. The fact that I get to be a part of this new chapter is mind-blowing,” Leto posted to Instagram Monday. “I am so very excited and proud to confirm that YES – I will be starring in TRON. We will work as hard as we possibly can to create something that I hope you all will love. We have some very special ideas in store for you all… Anyone wanna go to the movies? See you in the grid!”
In a deleted tweet, Jared Leto also seems to have mistakenly leaked the title for the flick: Tron: Ares.
Jared Leto attached to Tron for a while
Back in 2017 actually saw it said that Leto was circling a Tron 3 and was up to play a character named Ares, so we see it all fits.
What’s interesting about the name Ares is that it’s the name of the Greek god of war, and it’s known a Tron 3 was being developed by Joseph Kosinski under the title Tron: Ascension, which was about The Grid invading the real world, so maybe the story is similar for Leto’s Tron: Ares.
Garth Davis, known for 2018’s Mary Magdalene and the 2018 Lion movie that received six Oscar nominations including for Best Picture, is directing the new Jared Leto Tron movie which currently has no release date; Jesse Wigutow wrote the most recent draft of the script, and Leto is producing along with Justin Springer and Emma Ludbrook.
Tron was first released in 1982 and starred Jeff Bridges, the sequel, Tron: Legacy, was released in 2010 starring Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde, and brought in over $400 million. Director Joseph Kosinski blamed the Star Wars and Marvel brands for the third movie not happening.
