The Flashpoint movie may have found its villain in the form of a gender-swapped Reverse Flash, aka Eobard Thawne, possibly played by Jessica Chastain.
Potential leaks have found their way onto 4Chan which describe the Flashpoint movie as:
Barry Allen has the power of super speed, and fights daily against villains in Central City, but that doesn’t stop him from suffering for his mother’s death, but everything changes when he meets a mysterious woman, named Eobard Thawne, who teaches Barry a way to change his mother’s tragic fate.
The 4Chan post further says that filming with start in November and will film in London, England, and Atlanta, Georgia, with Ezra Miller playing Barry Allen / The Flash, with Jessica Chastain in talks for the role of Eobard Thawne, aka Reverse Flash.
According to the post, producers on Flashpoint are said to include Michael Disco, Barbara Muschietti, director Andy Muschietti, Charles Roven, and Peter Safran.
It’s already known the script is from Bumblebee scribe Christina Hodson who wrote Birds of Prey and is also writing the Batgirl movie for WB.
Obviously take the info with a grain of salt, but gender-swapping the villain of The Flash movie wouldn’t be unheard of, especially this day and age in Hollywood.
The Flash going with a different version of Flashpoint
Jessica Chastain recently played the villain of the X-Men Dark Phoenix movie, and the adult Beverly Marsh for Muschietti in IT: Chapter Two.
According to her IMDb account, Jessica Chastain has five projects in the works, none of which is Flashpoint, so it remains to be seen if she actually has time for the flick (assuming the rumor is legit).
Worth a mention is that director Andy Muschietti did recently confirm that his movie will be a different take on Flashpoint than the comics.
Flashpoint comics and Reverse Flash:
Regarding the Flashpoint comics, Barry goes back in time to when he was a child to stop Reverse Flash from murdering his mother which creates an alternate reality. Among the changes is that Bruce Wayne gets killed instead of his parents, leading to Thomas Wayne becoming Batman, with Martha Wayne going insane and becoming the Joker; Aquaman is at war with Wonder Woman, and Superman is nowhere to be found due to the government intercepting baby Kal’s Kryptonian ship prior to landing at the Kent Farm.
The comic also sees Barry blaming Reverse Flash for the changes to the timeline, but Eobard reveals it is Barry who is responsible for Flashpoint.
Tom Cavanagh and Matt Letscher most recently played Eobard Thawne and Reverse Flash on The CW series.
The Flash movie has an official release date of July 1, 2022.
DC Comics describes Reverse Flash as:
Born in the 25th Century, Eobard Thawne grew up idolizing the Flash and studying the legacy of the Scarlet Speedster. However, as he learned more about the Flash, Eobard discovered how his own life was linked to his hero’s: He was destined to become one of Barry Allen’s greatest villains, a revelation that led Eobard to grow unhinged. When he eventually replicated the chemical accident that granted the Flash super speed, Eobard took on a new identity—that of the Reverse-Flash, a wicked subversion of everything the Flash stands for.
Granted with powers and abilities similar to that of the Flash, the Reverse-Flash is unwavering in his determination to oppose and destroy all that’s important to the Flash. His ability to travel through time allows him to attack the Flash at almost any point throughout history. However, he is unable to ever kill the Flash—for the Reverse-Flash would not exist if he killed his own inspiration. Instead, he does everything in his power to torment and torture the hero, an ominous visitor from a future the Flash never could’ve envisioned.
