It’s learned that Anthony Mackie, known for playing Falcon in Marvel’s Avengers movies, has been cast as the lead character for Netflix’s Altered Carbon Season 2.
Anthony Mackie will be playing Takeshi Kovacs, which seems him take over for Season 1 star Joel Kinnaman.
It’s also learned that Alison Schapker, known for Lost and Fringe, will be the Altered Carbon Season 2 co-showrunner and will serve as an executive producer; Laeta Kalogridis returns as co-showrunner and executive producer as well.
I thought the first season of Altered Carbon was fabulous as it’s a heavy science-fiction series based on the Richard K. Morgan novel, with Season 1 described as: “After 250 years on ice, a prisoner returns to life in a new body with one chance to win his freedom: by solving a mind-bending murder.”
Regarding casting Anthony Mackie, Netflix said: “The journey of Takeshi Kovacs spans hundreds of years, many different bodies, and planets. This allows the story to explore themes of identity, mortality, and the human soul. In this new season, Anthony Mackie will be the new embodiment of Kovacs, as the series continues to expand on these deeper themes and ideas across longer periods of times and different worlds throughout the universe.”
It’s been known for a few months that Joel Kinnaman wouldn’t be returning for Altered Carbon Season 2 as he recently signed with Amazon for a lead role opposite Mireille Enos in Hanna, which seems the two stars of The Killing reuniting for the series. Likewise, the end of Altered Carbon Season 1 saw his character getting re-sleeved, with only a silhouette teased, which follows the books.
