Good news for Marvel Studios as Ant-Man and the Wasp opens big at the Thursday night box office with $11.5 million, which is nearly double that of its previous $6.4 million Thursday haul.
The number is also bigger than the $9.4 million Doctor Strange brought in for its own Thursday night preview night, and that film went on to bring in $85 million.
Likewise, Guardians of the Galaxy had an $11.2 Thursday opening and finished with around $94 million for its weekend.
If the high numbers continue throughout the weekend for Ant-Man and the Wasp, it could easily beat industry estimates of $75 million. Maybe even $100 million could be possible?
The first Ant-Man brought in $57.2 million back in 2015.
Ant-Man and the Wasp is also doing well at Rotten Tomatoes as it has an 86% Fresh rating, with 79% of the audience stating they liked the movie (the first movie finished with an 82% rating, with 86% of the audience liking it).
Ant-Man and the Wasp opens July 6, 2018 directed by Peyton Reed starring Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man, Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne/Wasp, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet Van Dyne, Michael Peña as Luis, Laurence Fishburne as Doctor Bill Foster, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Randall Park as Sgent Jimmy Woo, Judy Greer as Maggie Lange and Walter Goggins as Sonny Burch.
