With The Avengers: Infinity War now in theaters, check out a list of five things we want to see in Avengers 4.
Note: Massive spoilers follow for Infinity War, so turn away if you haven’t see the movie!
1. Captain America’s Shield
It’s not the same Captain America without the star-spangled red, white and blue shield!
Captain America left his shield behind in Civil War with Tony Stark now having possession of it. Infinity War saw Black Panther give Captain America a new shield, but it just isn’t the same! Interestingly enough, Spider-Man: Homecoming saw mention of Captain America’s shield. When Happy Hogan was packing up all of Tony’s stuff, Hogan made mention of “Cap’s protoypte shield.” So what does that mean? Captain America’s protype shield before his original one? Or will it be an upgraded version for Avengers 4?! We can assume Captain America and Iron Man will patch things up in Avengers 4 (assuming Tony makes it back to Earth), so Tony probably gives Cap back his shield. But what improvements will it have (wink, wink!)? We want to see Captain America’s shield bounce off of Thanos’ big purple head! Thunk!
2. Thor’s Hammer
Likewise, it just isn’t the same Thor without Mjolnir!
Thor’s hammer was destroyed by Hela in Thor: Ragnarok, so Thor didn’t have it when the Asgardian ship was attacked by Thanos at the start of Infinity War. Obviously Mjolnir may have made a huge difference as apparently it may have been strong enough to hurt Thanos. Infinity War saw Thor, Rocket Raccoon and Groot go on a quest to get a new axe, Stormbreaker, that was pretty bad ass! It was powerful enough to withstand the power of the Infinity Gauntlet! However! Stormbreaker rightfully belongs to Beta Ray Bill who was actually teased in Thor: Ragnarok as part of the tower (meaning he was a former competitor and/or champion of the gladiator arena). As we saw in Infinity War, Peter Dinklage’s character, Eitri, couldn’t find Stormbreaker’s handle, so Groot used his own arm! Just maybe they eventually find the correct handle and give Stormbreaker to Beta Ray Bill some time down the line! That leaves the question of just how Mjolnir could return? Any ideas?? This time, go for the head!
3. Hulk
I can’t blame the Hulk for hiding! I would hide too following Thor: Ragnarok! Ughh!
Following my second viewing of Infinity War, The Avengers movie was actually on TV. I couldn’t believe the difference in the Hulk from the original Avengers movie to Thor: Ragnarok! Not good! The Hulk isn’t afraid of anybody, and as we all know, the stronger the Hulk gets the madder the Hulk gets! But not in Infinity War for some reason! Did the Grandmaster castrate the Hulk in Avengers: Infinity War? No, that was Taika Waititi! Apparently, the Hulk was originally going to bust out of the Hulkbuster Iron Man suit in Infinity War (as merchandise reveals it); however, the scene was cut / edited; so it didn’t happen. I was expecting Black Widow to get into some sort of trouble in the Wakanda final battle scene, with the Hulk busting out of Hulkbuster to save the day! Alas! There was no day saving in Infinity War! We also were robbed of the Hulk vs Cull Obsidian! Hopefully the Hulk smashes in Avengers 4! And less Banner jokes, too, Feige!
4. Heroes Return
Holy! The end of The Avengers: Infinity War saw half the universe killed off, which included some of the Avengers!
I found it interesting that all of the “new” Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy were killed off (except Rocket Raccoon). Obviously it seems as if they are giving the original actors a big send off, and it circles back to the original Avengers movie. Cool! That said, if you are a fan of the comics (remember Silver Surfer #55?!), you know what happens, and that dead characters do return. The Russo brothers actually teased the high stakes continue for Avengers 4, so possibly not all of the characters come back! If I had my choice, I want the following characters to return: Doctor Strange (second best character in the movie!), Spider-Man, Scarlet Witch (bad ass!), Star-Lord and Gamora.
5. Thanos Survives
The Great Titan made his presence felt in Avengers: Infinity War is the understatement of the year!
Fans were a bit on the fence when it was learned the Russo brothers had cut the back story of Thanos in the film; however, we still got enough, which I felt was the perfect amount. I don’t think we needed to see Thanos on Titan prior to his “Mad Titan” self as, I feel, it would have taken A LOT away from Thanos (he cried enough in the movie!). I’m glad they didn’t go the route that Jason Aarron did in the Thanos: Rising comics, which was simply AWFUL (read Timelord’s review here). The movie made the audience feel for Thanos in just an enough amount that it didn’t take away from Thanos being a big bad ass SOB. The guy kills half the universe! He’s a bad guy! Thanos is easily the best Marvel villain to date. So hopefully he isn’t killed off in Avengers 4! I would like Thanos and Josh Brolin to continue to have some sort of involvement in the MCU. Whether it’s in the form of an Infinity Watch movie or helping to battle the Magus ten years from now, I don’t care! I just want more Thanos!
