New Mutants Is Back To Full-Fledged Horror

It’s confirmed that the upcoming X-Men New Mutants movie will indeed be a horror flick.

Stranger Things star Charlie Heaton is playing Cannonball and offered the following.

“It’s basically about these mutants in a facility for damaged mutants,” Heaton said. “It’s a story about these characters coming to grips with who they are and it’s a horror X-Men movie, which we haven’t seen before. I feel like, for an X-Men movie, yeah, I think they’re going full-fledged horror. Without saying too much — I really don’t want to give away too much what it’s about, it’s very under wraps — but it is, in terms of anything we’ve seen in the X-Men world, it definitely is a horror film. It’s scarier than anything we’ve seen in that genre.”

Charlie Heaton also talked about his character.

“I play Sam Guthrie, whose mutant name is Cannonball,” said Heaton. “Sam comes from Kentucky, and he’s kind of a working-class boy, and he has the ability to project himself through the sky like a cannonball.”

New Mutants

Regarding New Mutants back to being a full-fledged horror movie, it recently became known that Fox Studios wanted to make it feature less horror and scary elements, with it said they demanded a PG-13 rating. The good news is that it’s claimed the recent Warner Bros. IT movie actually saved New Mutants from becoming a “youth adult movie.” When IT became a huge hit, Fox decided to go with a cut of the trailer that was scary, and now they’ve decided to go back to director Josh Boone’s original intent of the film being a horror flick. New Mutants is undergoing reshoots with it said to involve 50% or more of the film in order to get back that horror element.

What remains to be seen is the film’s final rating, whether it will stick with the PG-13 rating or go with an R-rating similar to Deadpool and Logan.

New Mutants has an August 2, 2019 release and stars Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane, Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik, Charlie Heaton as Cannonball, Henry Zaga as Sunspot, Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar / Mirage, and Alice Braga as Dr. Cecilia Reyes.
