Last week saw it mentioned that New Mutants will undergo a round of additional photography this summer that will insert a new character.
Now Anya Taylor-Joy, who plays Illyana Rasputin aka Magik, confirms the reshoots as well as the addition of the new character.
“I do think that there is a great responsibility to make sure the movie is done right and that we deliver the fans something that they can all feel happy about and excited about,” Anya Taylor-Joy told Playlist. “So, I don’t think it being delayed is a bad thing because it’s definitely more important to make sure that we get it right than rushing to make a date. So, hopefully, all of these reshoots and adding of the new character that will give the fans an altogether satisfactory, wonderful product.”
It’s unknown which character is being added but it’s speculated to be Warlock, an alien that can shapeshift, which is thought to be used to add humor to the movie (my thoughts on that here).
In New Mutants, five young mutants, just discovering their abilities while held in a secret facility against their will, fight to escape their past sins and save themselves.
New Mutants has an April 13, 2018 release starring Game of Thrones‘ Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane, Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik, Charlie Heaton as Cannonball, Henry Zaga as Sunspot, Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar / Mirage, and Alice Braga as Dr. Cecilia Reyes.
