Star Wars: The Last Jedi Editor Regrets Death of Admiral Ackbar

Star Wars: The Last Jedi has been getting a lot of backlash, and the latest is in regards to the death of fan-favorite character Admiral Ackbar.

Admiral Ackbar, who first appeared in 1983’s Return of the Jedi, was killed off in Star Wars: The Last Jedi in an off-screen death, which many fans weren’t happy with as it was disrespectful, distasteful, and empty.

Kylo Ren led an attack against the Rebel command ship in which he was targeting the bridge; however, Kylo Ren held off as his mother, Leia, was on the bridge, but his squadron blasted away.

Fans didn’t get to see the death of Ackbar, but later on it was confirmed he was a part of the Rebel leadership that was killed off in the incident.

Now it’s learned Star Wars: The Last Jedi editor Bob Ducsay admitted to second thoughts about how the death of Ackbar went down.

“That was how it was designed,” Ducsay confirmed to Huff Post. “It’s interesting that you mentioned it because I watched the film last night, and I thought, ‘hmmm, maybe that’s too incidental.’ It’s a very funny thing about that because what happens … I don’t typically watch movies that I work on much afterwards, because you’re so familiar with it. But this movie I’ve seen now a couple times with an audience. And it occurred to me last night that what does happen when I watch movies … is I generally find things that are like, ‘hmmm, I wonder if I should do that differently.’ Which is some really horrible form of personal criticism because there’s really nothing to be done.

Ducsay is definitely right in the way they handled the death of Ackbar as it was meaningless and pointless, just like a lot of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
