With Star Wars: The Last Jedi having debuted this past weekend, now we can turn our attention to Star Wars: Episode IX, which sees J.J. Abrams return to direct the film.
Abrams has recently been said to have pitched his version of Star Wars: Episode IX to Disney CEO Bob Iger, and now it’s possible the working title may shed a clue or two in regards to the film’s plot.
According to Fantha Tracks, the Star Wars: Episode IX working title is “Black Diamond.”
We can only speculate what “Black Diamond” for Star Wars: Episode IX might refer to, but the site theorizes it may have something to do with the fact that black diamonds are renowned for their luminescence, which may hint at the use of Force Ghosts.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi saw Yoda appear and actually interact with the living environment, and of course Luke Skywalker has become one with The Force and is expected to appear in Star Wars: Episode IX as a Force Ghost.
Another possibility is that Snoke’s ring has actually been revealed to be crafted from the catacombs beneath Darth Vader’s castle on Mustafar made from obsidian, which is a black shiny volcanic glass.
Could “Black Diamond” be referring to the return of Snoke?
I know a lot of fans weren’t happy with what happened with Snoke in Star Wars: The Last Jedi and are hoping Abrams fixes things in Episode IX. Perhaps Snoke isn’t dead?
A third possibility could even mean the return of Darth Vader in some form, perhaps as a Force Ghost of Anakin Skywalker.

While all the previous three guesses deal with deceased characters from the past, if we stick to what was given in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, it may mean Episode IX will be out with the old and in with the new as well, meaning “Black Diamond” could be Kylo Ren.
Star Wars: Episode IX has a December 20, 2019 release.
