Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were previously up to direct the Ezra Miller The Flash movie for the DCEU, but instead chose to direct the new Star Wars Han Solo movie for Disney.
Due to creative differences with LucasFilm, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller departed the Han Solo movie, which led to speculation that Phil Lord and Christopher Miller might return for the Flashpoint movie that DC announced at this past Summer’s Comic-Con.
Now it’s learned that Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will not be directing Flashpoint as Deadline reports the duo have signed on to direct another movie, Artemis, the novel by The Martian author Andy Weir that is with Fox Studios (update: Flashpoint script is complete).
The article makes mention that Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have been “offered numerous projects, including a possible return to The Flash,” but “instead they sparked to Weir’s book and the opportunity it gives them.”
The Artemis novel is described as:
Jazz Bashara is a criminal.
Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you’re not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you’ve got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent.
Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down. But pulling off the impossible is just the start of her problems, as she learns that she’s stepped square into a conspiracy for control of Artemis itself—and that now, her only chance at survival lies in a gambit even riskier than the first.
