Guardians of the Galaxy 2 once had a high rating of 87% positive on Rotten Tomatoes, but now that the movie is out–the rating has steadily decreased.
In its first official day of opening, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 now stands at 81% positive at Rotten Tomatoes with 201 positive reviews to 46 negative.
The first Guardians of the Galaxy finished at 91% positive.
In addition, it was once being said Guardians of the Galaxy 2 would open to $150 million plus, but now some estimates are downplaying the box office draw and stating somewhere between $120-130 million (still a very good number).
Update: Friday’s numbers are in: Guardians of the Galaxy 2 brought in $56.3 million, with the movie now estimated somewhere around a $140 million weekend opening.
I liked the movie, but after seeing the first one, I wasn’t expecting The Dark Knight.
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 pretty much met my expectations, and the villain was pretty stellar–and a lot better than villains in other Marvel movies. As I previously stated, I wasn’t big on Drax, which is a similar compaint I’m seeing online.
I think the first Guardians of the Galaxy “wowed” people so much that it was just too hard to repeat.
Here is the Marvel Cinematic Universe Rotten Tomatoes scores for comparison, with Guardians of the Galaxy 2 now at Ant-Man‘s level:

• Captain America: The Winter Soldier: 89
