With Marvel and Sony rebooting Spider-Man, it’s now being rumored that Ice Cube is up to play J. Jonah Jameson.
The rumor comes from All Hip Hop, where it’s noted Ice Cube tweeted out it’s news to him.
Fan-favorite actor J.K. Simmons portrayed J. Jonah Jameson in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies and recently said he would be open to returning as the character.
Spider-Man gets rebooted with Tom Holland in May’s Captain America: Civil War. With the standalone Spider-Man movie due out in the Summer of 2017, Marvel and Sony are certainly coming up with a list of actors for the various roles. Is Ice Cube amongst them? Time will tell, but Marisa Tomei is said to be playing a new contemporary version of Aunt May. As we’ve seen recently with Michael B. Jordan cast as the Human Torch, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, it wouldn’t be unheard of to have a black actor cast in what has been normally considered a white role.
Ice Cube recently completed filming on Barbershop: The Next Cut and is rumored to return for xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage.
