Disney Rumored To Be In Panic Mode Over Star Wars: Rogue One

Following the stellar performance and reception of J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it’s being said Disney is in panic mode over Gareth Edwards’ Star Wars: Rogue One.

The NY Post’s Page Six is stating Star Wars: Rogue One will be doing expensive reshoots this Summer.

The report says the bosses at Disney are not fully satisfied or happy with the first cut from director Gareth Edwards.

According to an insider: “Gareth’s work on the first ‘Godzilla’ [which came out in 2014] shows he can handle a big studio blockbuster. But ‘Rogue One’ has fallen short of what J.J. Abrams did with ‘Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens.’ So Disney has ordered reshoots.”

It’s said Edwards prefers to direct his movies without much influence, but “Disney won’t take a back seat, and is demanding changes, as the movie isn’t testing well.”

A Disney source for the site also added: “The filmmaking team and the studio always anticipated additional shooting and second unit work to make the film the absolute best it can be, and the actors were aware there would be additional shooting. Coming off The Force Awakens, there’s an incredibly high bar for this movie and we have a responsibility to the franchise and to the fans to deliver the best possible movie we can.”

It also recently became known that Gareth Edwards will not be directing Godzilla 2 following Rogue One, but instead will focus on smaller projects. Whether the two are connected, is anybody’s guess.

Donnie Yen, who plays Chirrut, also confirmed Star Wars: Rogue One reshoots for the UK.

“Star Wars: Rogue One” has a December 16, 2016 release directed by Gareth Edwards starring Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, who plays a performance-capture character in Rogue One, and Riz Ahmed.

Synopsis:

Rogue One tells the story of resistance fighters who have united to steal plans to the dreaded Death Star.
