The nearby family crypt containing the remains of his parents, Thomas and Martha, is also in a similar state of neglect. It is a reminder of the night they were murdered, when the three of them went into the city to take in a movie. The loss of his parents at such an early age was the impetus for his crime-fighting career, but that event still has the power to invade his sleep with nightmarish visions, all these years later.
Looks a bit like Man-Bat, too.
