Advanced reviews for Aquaman have hit social media with one, in particular, going so far as to offer it’s the best movie since Christopher Nolan’s Batman movie, The Dark Knight.
While those are some mighty big words, additional social media reviews offer similar opinions, with one offering it’s the second best DC movie behind Wonder Woman.
James Wan, Jason Momoa and Patrick Wilson also are given kudos for their involvement in the flick.
Aside from Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman, the DCEU has been plagued by negative reviews and poor fan reception. It’s possible with Wonder Woman and now Aquaman, that DC might be on the right path. Up next is David F. Sandberg’s Shazam! which looks just as promising.
Warner Bros. also looks to be pretty excited and confident in James Wan as they are having an early access screening of Aquaman a week early.

Third act battle that doesn’t devolve into the typical comic book movie blah trap, and is surprisingly ambitious. A lot of the aspects I didn’t like can probably be traced back to decisions Snyder made that were inherited by Wan (casting, chemistry between Heard/Mamoa…etc).

Aquaman is a big, fun, wild ride. It’s unabashedly melodramatic and over the top with the largest, most ambitious sense of scale imaginable. #Aquaman is everything DC fans have been hoping for and more. Rollicking action, an amazing sense of world-building, spellbinding musical numbers in which Aquaman wears clams as tap shoes, and a command performance from Jason Momoa. DC has really righted the ship. The DCEU lives!

There were moments where I felt #Aquaman might be running a little long but it has SO much to unpack in building its own isolated world.
Huge, epic, unique, and stylish action-sequences balance the heavy exposition.

I guess I can react to #Aquaman now. 2nd best DC movie behind WW (no shade this is an a accomplishment) with lots of killer visuals. Lots of stuff I liked and some stuff I was very lukewarm on. The latter could possibly be improved on latter down the series. Most upbeat DC film.

Wan directs from a screenplay by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick (“The Conjuring 2”) and Will Beall (“Gangster Squad,” TV’s “Training Day”), story by Geoff Johns & James Wan and Will Beall, based on characters from DC, Aquaman created by Paul Norris and Mort Weisinger. The film is produced by Peter Safran and Rob Cowan, with Deborah Snyder, Zack Snyder, Jon Berg, Geoff Johns and Walter Hamada serving as executive producers.
Wan’s team behind the scenes includes such frequent collaborators as Oscar-nominated director of photography Don Burgess (“The Conjuring 2,” “Forrest Gump”), his five-time editor Kirk Morri (“The Conjuring” films, “Furious 7,” the “Insidious” films), and production designer Bill Brzeski (“Furious 7”). They are joined by costume designer Kym Barrett (“The Matrix” trilogy, “The Amazing Spider-Man”) and composer Rupert Gregson-Williams (“Wonder Woman”).
