I didnāt think Kevin Feige was going to disappoint us, and now that appears to be the case as Zendaya flat out says she isnāt playing Mary Jane in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
āIām not Mary Jane unfortunately, but I am in the movie which is exciting,āĀ Zendaya told Entertainment Tonight.
āWait, youāre not Mary Jane?ā the interview continued, with Zendaya again saying, āNo.ā
It has been said Mary Jane is playing a character named Michelle in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but itās also been said Marvel intentionally threw bloggers off by using different names during production.
āMy characterās name is Michelle,ā Zendaya said. āThatās what everybody wants to think. Iām going to let people think whatever they want to think,ā Zendaya added with a wink.
Itās also been said Spider-Man: Homecoming will feature an Easte Egg of sorts at the end of the movie which sees Peter call Zendayaās character āMJ,ā which may mean, while Zendaya technically isnāt Mary Jane Watson from the comics, it would appear as if Marvel and Sony are moving in a different direction (because it would be kind of weird later down the road to have another character called MJ).
Zenda also offered her thoughts about working onĀ Spider-Man: Homecoming.
āItās incredible, you know? Itās such a huge project to be part of,ā Zenda said. āI mean, who could pick a better thing to be your first movie? Like, Iām speechless. If I could pick a movie, it would beĀ Spider-Man, so I got it.ā
