James Bond 25 Loses Director Danny Boyle

James Bond 25 loses its director with Danny Boyle as the movie’s producers officially announced the departure, which is said to be over “creative differences.”

“Michael G. Wilson, Barbara Broccoli and Daniel Craig today announced that due to creative differences Danny Boyle has decided to no longer direct Bond 25,” the official James Bond OO7 Twitter account posted.

While the exact reason for the shake-up is unknown, it was previously reported that Danny Boyle only wanted to use the recent John Hodge script, which was based on Boyle’s idea, and “tell that specific story, his way.”

It’s possible the James Bond producers wanted more control, a different story, or a different script; possibly a previous version written by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who wrote Casino Royale, Quantum Of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre. Deadline notes the Purvis and Wade script got shelved when the producers decided to go with Boyle’s pitch.

Regarding the possibilities to replace Danny Boyle, David Mackenzie was previously eyed, and since he recently finished the Outlaw King starring Chris Pine, Mackenzie may be available. Another name that surfaced has been Blade Runner 2049’s Denis Villenueve, but he may be too busy with the new Dune.

Worth a mention is that James Bond 25 also looks to be the last time Daniel Craig will play OO7, with various rumors offering that Superman actor Henry Cavill might take on the role with Christopher Nolan directing, and Idris Elba is a heavy favorite, with some others even recommending a woman in the role of Bond.

James Bond 25 is supposed to start filming soon for its November 8, 2019 release date, so it remains to be seen if things will stay on schedule or if things will need to be moved for the new director.
