Sean Connery Dead At 90; Played James Bond

Sean Connery, known for playing James Bond, has passed away at the age of 90.

The BBC reports that his family confirmed that Sean Connery died overnight in his sleep, while in the Bahamas, and that he had been unwell for some time.

The actor who is also known for a plethora of other roles including Time Bandits, Highlander, The Untouchables, for which he won an Oscar, Hunt For Red October, Indiana Jones, and more, recently celebrated his 90th birthday this August.

Sean Connery was born August 25, 1930.

Connery played James Bond in seven films and first took on the 007 role with Dr. No in 1962; he would go on to star in six more films: From Russia with Love (1963), Goldfinger (1964), Thunderball (1965), You Only Live Twice (1967), Diamonds Are Forever (1971) and Never Say Never Again (1983).

In addition to an Oscar, Sean Connery has also won two Bafta awards for The Name of the Rose (1986), and in 1998, Connery received the BAFTA Academy Fellowship Award, and Connery has also won three Golden Globes, including the Cecil B. DeMille Award and a Henrietta Award.

The actor is known for his iconic good looks as well as his Scottish accent which was featured in such projects as Dragonheart, the 2005 From Russia with Love video game, the narrator of the TV documentary, Modern Greeks: C.P. Cavafy, and he was featured in the 2012 animated movie, Sir Billi.

In addition to acting, Sean Connery has producing credits on Sir Billi, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Finding Forrester, Entrapment, The Rock, Just Cause, Rising Sun, Medicine Man, The Offense, and the documentary The Bowler and the Bunnet which he also directed.

The official James Bond Twitter account tweeted: “Sir Sean Connery has died at the age of 90. He was the first actor to play James Bond on the big screen in Dr. No in 1962, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice and Diamonds Are Forever followed.”
