Red Sparrow Director Has Taken Marvel & DC Meetings

Red Sparrow Director Has Taken Marvel & DC Meetings

In a couple of weeks the Jennifer Lawrence Red Sparrow movie opens, which a lot of fans have been comparing to Marvel’s Black Widow.

Speaking of comic book characters, Red Sparrow is actually directed by Francis Lawrence, the director behind the Keanu Reeves Constantine movie (also Hunger Games and I Am Legend).

While Lawrence scoffed at Red Sparrow comparisons to Black Widow, it is learned Lawrence has taken meetings for both DC and Marvel movies.

“I’ve definitely had a few – I’ve never had a Marvel meeting. I’ve never had a Marvel meeting with Marvel people. I have been offered Marvel material at other studios; I haven’t been interested. And I’ve had a DC meeting,” Francis Lawrence informed the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

As Francis Lawrence has directed Constantine, and with a DC Justice League Dark movie said to be in development, would he consider directing JLD?

“You mean Justice League Dark? You know, I don’t know. I have to say that I have not been that drawn to comic book stories as of late. I mean, my first movie was one; I just haven’t been drawn to them, I don’t know why,” Lawrence said.

The meetings that Francis Lawrence had regarding Marvel properties were with Fox Studios and Sony Pictures, which we can assume were for either X-Men or Spider-Man, but as of now, we see that Francis Lawrence isn’t interested in comic book movies. Maybe that will eventually change. How about Fantastic Four?

Check out the Red Sparrow trailer, which looks pretty cool (opens March 2nd):

That is why she finds herself manipulated into becoming the newest recruit for Sparrow School, a secret intelligence service that trains exceptional young people like her to use their bodies and minds as weapons. After enduring the perverse and sadistic training process, she emerges as the most dangerous Sparrow the program has ever produced. Dominika must now reconcile the person she was with the power she now commands, with her own life and everyone she cares about at risk, including an American CIA agent who tries to convince her he is the only person she can trust.
