The Sony Pictures Uncharted movie set to star Spider-Man-actor Tom Holland loses its director as Stranger Thingsā Shawn Levy has stepped away from the project.
Levy will instead be directing the Ryan ReynoldsĀ video game-focused action-comedyĀ FreeĀ Guy.
THR reports that Sony is now searching for a new director for Uncharted and that Holland is still attached to star.
The news comes as a surprise as Levy recently said he was excited about the flick.
āAs of right now, the closest to the starting line is Uncharted in that itās a massive title,ā Shawn Levy said in August. āWe now have a very good script and we have our star in Tom Holland. That is now subject to schedule and additional casting. But I would say as of right now, that seems to be the most near horizon. And itās a movie Iām very excited about.ā
Details reported for the Uncharted movie include that it will be a new storyĀ said to be inspired fromĀ Uncharted 3: Drakeās DeceptionĀ which focuses on the young thief Drake (Holland) and his first encounter with the professional rogue, Sullivan.
The film has also been described as following Tom Holland as he grows into the treasure hunter Nathan Drake, with Holland said to be signed on for numerous movies.
TheĀ UnchartedĀ movie has been in development for quite some time from Sony Pictures, which is an adaptation of the treasure-hunting action storyline from the Naughty Dog video games.
