‘New Mutants’ Rumored For Disney Plus

‘New Mutants’ Rumored For Disney Plus

It’s again rumored that the X-Men movie, New Mutants, will be getting a theatrical release, with the latest rumor offering on Disney Plus.

Recently saw Disney announce its new release date schedule, which includes Disney, Fox and Marvel films, but New Mutants was absent from the schedule for some reason.

According to Mike Sutton via the Lords of the Long Box YouTube channel, Disney is now considering releasing New Mutants on Disney Plus in the Summer.

It’s noted that things do depend on the situation surrounding the coronavirus, but it’s said, Disney thinks releasing New Mutants on Disney Plus may be the best way to go for the release of the film.

It’s said the flick only had a modest budget to begin with so nothing would really be left on the table, and the release would give Disney Plus a much-needed boost in ratings and content.

New Mutants release is up in the air

New Mutants is rated PG-13 which fits with the Disney Plus streaming service’s family-friendly approach to entertainment.

We can also add that the coronavirus has delayed filming on the Marvel shows, so again, Disney Plus may need new content for all of its subscribers.

If the Marvel Disney Plus shows, similar to the MCU movies, do get pushed back, Disney Plus really only has The Mandalorian Season 2 coming out in the Fall as an incentive for both new subscribers and for existing subscribers to keep their subscription.

Prior to the sale of Fox to Disney, it was rumored that New Mutants would either get canceled or see a streaming release years later, which now isn’t too far off by the sound of things.

The film was supposed to get released April 3, 2020 but was taken off Disney’s release schedule due to the coronavirus closing down movie theaters worldwide.

Josh Boone is the director with the film starring Maisie Williams as Rahne Sinclair / Wolfsbane, Anya Taylor-Joy as Illyana Rasputin / Magik, Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar, Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie, Henry Zaga as Roberto da Costa / Sunspot and Alice Braga as Dr. Cecilia Reyes.

Synopsis: An original horror thriller set in an isolated hospital where a group of young mutants is being held for psychiatric monitoring. When strange occurrences begin to take place, both their new mutant abilities and their friendships will be tested as they battle to try and make it out alive.
