Matt Bomer finally gets his chance to play Superman in the upcoming Superman Unbound animated movie from Warner Bros. Animation.

Bomer was previously in contention to play the Man of Steel for both the previous Superman movies with it being said that he was passed on because of being gay.

Whether that is true or not we may never know, but we now get a first look at the animated movie which Bomer will be voicing the lead.

Interestingly enough, the new animated movie also features Superman with the red trunks, contrary to the new Man of Steel movie as well as the new comic books with Superman all in blue.

Superman Unbound is based on an Action Comics storyline from DC Comics writer and Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns that sees Braniac collect cities and destroy planets.

“He’s the ultimate collector. He says what he’s doing is the name of science and ultimate knowledge, but really he just wants stuff and he doesn’t want anyone else to have access to it,” director/supervising producer James Tucker told TV Guide.

Fringe‘s John Noble voices Braniac with Stana Katic as Lois Lane and Molly Quinn as Supergirl.

Superman Unbound will be released this Spring on Blu-Ray, DVD and On Demand.
