Spider-Man, the Sony Marvel properties, and more will be coming to the Disney Plus streaming service.
Sony and Disney announced an âunprecedentedâ agreement which will see various Sony properties make their way to Disney Plus following first getting released on Netflix starting in 2022.
âThe deal covers theatrical releases from 2022-2026 and begins for each film following its Pay 1 TV window. The agreement builds upon the companiesâ prior arrangement which saw SPE movies licensed to FX in the post-Pay 1 TV window,â states the press release. âThe deal also grants rights to a significant number of SPEâs iconic library titles, ranging from the Jumanji and Hotel Transylvania franchises to Sony Picturesâ Universe of Marvel Characters films, including Spider-Man. This gives Disney enormous programming potential across its platforms and makes them key destinations for a robust collection of Spider-Man films. Notably, the agreement provides Hulu access to a significant number of library titles beginning as early as this June.â
In addition to Spider-Man, Sony owns all the related character film rights which also includes Venom, as years ago, Sony bought the film rights to Spider-Man, which sees Disney retain the merchandise rights.
