New Look At Tyler Hoechlin As Superman In Supergirl Season 2

Check out a new look at Tyler Hoechlin as Superman in Supergirl Season 2.

Hoechlin is featured as the Man of Steel alongside Melissa Benoist, who plays Supergirl in the series.

“Honestly, it was the strangest thing — there wasn’t an audition,” Hoechlin tells EW. “I had a great meeting with [executive producers] Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg [in June]. I had been told that the meeting would have something to do with Supergirl, but nothing really specific. Halfway through, they brought up the idea of introducing Superman to the show and asked if I’d be interested. I said, ‘Yeah, absolutely. I’m obviously a fan.’ I believe that was on a Monday. On Friday, we got a call with the offer, so it was very quick. It was very flattering, and I wish every job came about that way.”

Hoechlin also talks about his version of Superman.

“It’s Superman as I think he was intended to be,” Hoechlin said, “which is just an incredible symbol of hope to kids that they can do anything, that they can be good people, and that good people can triumph over evil. You don’t have to be dark and brooding and always in this state of masculine toughness. He sits in that very hopeful and optimistic place that Kara tends to be in.”

Hoechlin also mentioned about an encounter while filming with the local children.

“We were shooting in a park and one of the PA’s grabbed these four little kids and brought them over. Just being able to sit there and talk with them for a few minutes and to see them light up from the costume, it’s such a great thing,” Hoechlin said. “It’s a once in a lifetime experience, and I take the responsibility of it very seriously.”

Supergirl Season 2 premiers Monday, October 10th at 8pm ET on The CW. In addition to Tyler Hoechlin as Superman, newcomers for Supergirl Season 2 include: Lynda Carter as the president, Chris Wood as Mon-El, Sharon Leal as Miss Martian, Katie McGrath as Lena Luthor, Ian Gomez as Snapper Carr, Floriana Lima as Maggie Sawyer, and Frederick Schmidt as Metallo.
