Kevin Feige Reacts To Black Panther Oscar Nominations

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige reacts to Black Panther getting nominated for seven Oscars including Best Picture, the first time ever for a comic book movie.

“I’m feeling a sense of pride and humility and immense gratitude,” Feige told the NY Times with mention it’s the first time he watched the nominations live in years.

While Black Panther director Ryan Coogler didn’t get nominated, Kevin Feige made a point of emphasizing the filmmaker.

“You’re going to hear me say the name ‘Ryan Coogler’ constantly on this phone call,” Feige said. “To me, the best thing a producer can do is find a person with something to say, who has a story to tell and can tell it in a way that the world responds to. That’s what Mr. Coogler has done for us.”

Feige also revealed he was a part of a group text that included Coogler, executive producer Nate Moore and Disney CEO Bob Iger, and that his reaction mainly consisted of “numerous emojis.”

“[There were] a lot of firework- and confetti-laden text messages flying fast and furious,” Feige said.

In addition to Best Picture, Black Panther is nominated at the Oscars for Best Costume Design, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing, Best Original Score, Best Production Design, and Best Original Song.

The Avengers: Infinity War has also been nominated for Best VFX.
