For the second week in a row, Ant-Man has topped the box office domestically, just narrowly beating out the new Adam Sandler movie Pixels.
Ant-Man nabbed $24.8 million to Pixels $24 million.
Ant-Man has now surpassed the $100 million mark in the U.S. ($106m) and stands at a worldwide cume of $226.4 million.
While Sandler and Pixels have been getting berated online, I actually loved the movie and thought it was really entertaining and fun (wasn’t expecting an Oscar-award winning film here, folks!), as did my two kids and their friend.
Thursday night saw the shooting in the Lafayette, Louisiana theater, but the tradgedy doesn’t appear to have affected movie goers as sales were actually up slightly this year compared to the same time last year (+2.4%).
Minions came in third for the week, followed by Trainwreck, Paper Towns and Southpaw.
Worth a note is that Jurassic World passed The Avengers: Age Of Ultron domestically hauling in $623.8 million (so far) to The Avengers 2‘s $623.4 million.
Things should pick up a bit next week with the release of Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation.
