Captain Marvel Getting Backlash; Brie Larson Responds

Captain Marvel Getting Backlash; Brie Larson Responds

What may be a first for Marvel Studios is that their new Captain Marvel trailer is getting a lot of backlash from its fans, who normally eat anything up that is released by the MCU.

Fans have been pointing out on social networks that Brie Larson doesn’t smile in the trailer and basically has the same look on her face throughout the footage, which has actually led to Brie Larson responding.

Brie Larson posted the following on her Instagram Story with images of the Marvel superheroes edited to include smiles:

Fans are also on the fence about the Captain Marvel character as some feel she will be a “Mary Sue” or a deus ex machina in The Avengers 4. Fans are afraid that Captain Marvel will save the day and steal the limelight away from the Avengers who have been a part of the MCU for the past ten years.

Likewise, some fans aren’t happy the character has been described as the MCU’s most powerful superhero, which would mean more powerful than the Hulk and Scarlet Witch (and possibly Thanos, though he is a villain).

I have even questioned if Marvel Studios is doing a big retcon with the character, and a big question that needs to be answered is why hasn’t Fury called Captain Marvel for help before (such as during the Battle of New York in the first The Avengers??).

Interstingly enough, some of the “non-comic” fans are also questioning the trailer as they apparently didn’t understand why Carol punched the old lady in the face (it’s a darn and dirty shapeshifting Skrull!).

I also can’t but help think of DC’s Henry Cavill and Superman, which seems to be a similar complaint and possible situation, as a lot of fans weren’t happy with the EMO approach Zack Snyder did with the character in Man of Steel and Batman vs. Superman, which was then changed in Justice League rather drastically.

While fans have indeed been “voicing” their concerns, let us not forget this is Kevin Feige and the MCU we are talking about here, who have pretty much consistently put out a good product and made a majority of the fans happy. And even if you happen to be rather critical of some of the MCU films (count me in), you have to admit they are at the least entertaining (I recently watched Thor: Ragnarok for a second time and was able to dig it for the most part).
