Green Lantern John Stewart Top Choices: Aaron Pierre & Stephan James

Two actors emerge as the top choices to play Green Lantern John Stewart in James Gunn’s DCU Lanterns series.

Aaron Pierre and Stephan James are in the running to join Kyle Chandler who will play Hal Jordan.

The series is described as a “terrestrial-based TV show” similar to True Detective, where two Green Lanterns act as space cops watching over Earth and investigate a murder in the heartland of America.

Aaron Pierre is known for Netflix’s Rebel Ridge which is topping the Netflix charts. He’s also known for Genius, is voicing Mufasa in Disney’s upcoming Lion King, starred in M. Night Shyamalan’s Old, and The Underground Railroad.

Pierre also has some DC cred as he starred in Syfy’s Superman prequel Krypton series as Dev-em.

Stephan James is known for Race, Shots Fired, #Freerayshawn, Surface, Beacon 23, and The Piano Lesson.

Deadline also adds that Damson Idris was in the mix at one point.

The eight-episode Lanterns is from Ozark’s Chris Mundy, Watchmen‘s Damon Lindelof, and DC Comics comic book writer Tom King.
