More faithful adaptation

The reboot is being directed by Edgar Wright, whose previous works include Baby Driver, The World’s End, and Shaun of the Dead. Wright’s unique directorial style is expected to bring a new dimension to the story, blending action and dark humor in a way that resonates with contemporary audiences and sets it a part from the original.

According to The Wrap, The Running Man reboot “is a more faithful adaptation” of Stephen King’s original novel. The IMDb description also adds that The Running Man reboot is set in a futuristic United States of 2025, where the world has descended into a dystopia.

King’s book is also set in 2025 and follows Ben Richards, a desperate man who attempts to win a reality TV game where the only objective is to stay alive.

Here is the book description: It was the ultimate death game in a nightmare future America. The year is 2025 and reality TV has grown to the point where people are willing to wager their lives for a chance at a billion-dollar jackpot. Ben Richards is desperate – he needs money to treat his daughter’s illness. His last chance is entering a game show called The Running Man where the goal is to avoid capture by Hunters who are employed to kill him. Surviving this month-long chase is another issue when everyone else on the planet is watching – and willing to turn him in for the reward.
