Finally, someone is going to do Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time justice as it is learned DC’s Jay Oliva is adapting the popular fantasy franchise into a 3D animated movie.
Deadline offers the project will be set in a time before the events chronicled in the fourteen novels by Jordan and Amazon Prime Video’s Wheel of Time TV series, with Thor and X-Men: First Class writer Zack Stentz writing.
Here is the description: The action-adventure movie will chart the story of a young girl with a special gift. Her life is forever changed when evil visits her remote mountain village. Finding herself alone in a dangerous world, she must go to The White Tower to learn how to use her magical powers to save her family and friends. Rebellious and mistrusting, she learns that there is something in this world that is as powerful a weapon in the fight against evil as any form of magic.
Regarding doing the franchise justice, I couldn’t even get through Season 1. Should I give it another chance?
Oliva is actually known for directing both DC and Marvel animated projects, but his DC animated flicks are well known and Oliva is also known for working with Zack Snyder on the DCEU, so it’s safe to say that Wheel of Time is in good hands.
Jay Oliva is known for directing Marvel’s The Invincible Iron Man back in 2007, Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow in 2008, Green Lantern: Emerald Knights in 2011, ten episodes of Young Justice, both Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 and Part 2, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Justice League: War, Batman: Assault on Arkham, Batman vs. Robin, Batman: Bad Blood, and Justice League Dark.
Regarding Zack Snyder and the DCEU, Oliva is credited as the storyboard artist on Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Wonder Woman, Batman vs. Superman, and Man of Steel, and he did the storyboards on Snyder’s Netflix movie, Army of the Dead.
He was also the storyboard artist on Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Deadpool, Ant-Man, and The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes animated series.
Following the release of The Flash movie, Jay Oliva revealed details about the DCEU that-could-have-been including that the scrapped Ben Affleck Batman movie was f’n awesome (my Comic-Con insiders are buddies with him and say Jay is a great guy) and that the main villain of Snyder’s Flashpoint was actually Professor Zoom.
