Grand Theft Auto VI Delayed To May 2026

Rockstar Games officially announces that Grand Theft Auto VI has been delayed to May 26, 2026. The game was expected to drop later this year.

Update: Trailer #2 has been released.

Rockstar Games released official statements on their website and social media about the delay.

Grand Theft Auto VI is now set to release on May 26, 2026,” said Rockstar Games. “We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game.”

The announcement on the website and social media continued, “With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.

Why is GTA VI delayed?

We don’t know why GTA VI has been officially delayed but rumors of a delay first surfaced back in December.

The Kinda Funny Games Youtube stated at the time, “I would be shocked if it actually made it next year. I think that it will probably slip again because Rockstar games always slip.”

Likewise, a recent report from Bloomberg indicated that Rockstar Games has missed multiple internal deadlines during the development of GTA 6. While the studio hasn’t publicly commented on the setbacks until now, they’ve contributed to speculation about whether the game will arrive by late 2025 as expected, which now officially isn’t happening.

Bloomberg’s report also revealed that GTA 6 is going woke as it is claimed Rockstar “is asking its writers to be less crude toward transgender people and other minorities, the common targets of throwaway gags in previous versions.” Some fans think a possible delay means Rockstar is adding woke elements, as the previous games did not feature the woke agenda. It could also be the opposite, that the delay means Rockstar is removing the woke elements due to current politics.

GTA 6 was initially announced in 2022, with the first trailer revealed in December 2023. Fans have been expecting a new trailer, but with the official delay, it’s likely the new trailer has been delayed as well.
