National Treasure 3 Getting Closer With Nicolas Cage Confirms Producer

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer offered a new update on National Treasure 3 during a keynote at TheWrap’s TheGrill 2025 conference, confirming that the long-awaited sequel is still in development—and gaining momentum.

“We’re getting closer on that one,” Bruckheimer said when asked about the film, which would mark the third big-screen entry in the franchise that began back in 2004.

He added that the plan is to bring back original director Jon Turteltaub and star Nicolas Cage as Benjamin Gates.

Bruckheimer also offered an update on Pirates of the Caribbean 6, confirming Margot Robbie is still involved.

TV Series Didn’t Derail the Movie

Bruckheimer also addressed the short-lived Disney+ series, National Treasure: Edge of History, which some fans saw as a replacement for a third film that didn’t too well. The producer didn’t view it that way.

“No, it was completely different,” Bruckheimer said of the series. “We want to keep the name alive in the public eye [and] the zeitgeist.”

The series was canceled after one season, but as previously reported by screenwriter Ted Elliott, it remains canon to the larger franchise.

What’s Next for National Treasure 3?

Earlier this year, a rumor claimed the movie was officially in development at Disney. Bruckheimer’s new comments seem to back that up.

According to past statements, once the script is finalized, it will be sent to Nicolas Cage for approval. Both Bruckheimer and Turteltaub have expressed interest in reuniting the original cast.

As of now, no production start date has been announced, and Cage hasn’t publicly confirmed his return.
