Rep. James Comer (R-KY), Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, announced that the CEOs of Discord, Steam, Twitch, and Reddit have been called to testify at a hearing scheduled for October 8.
Comer said the session will focus on the radicalization of online users and how major platforms have enabled politically motivated violence.

“The politically motivated assassination of Charlie Kirk claimed the life of a husband, father, and American patriot,” Comer said in a post. “In the wake of this tragedy, and amid other acts of politically motivated violence, Congress has a duty to oversee the online platforms that radicals have used to advance political violence. To prevent future radicalization and violence, the CEOs of Discord, Steam, Twitch, and Reddit must appear and explain what actions they will take to ensure their platforms are not exploited for nefarious purpose.”

Discord Leak Raises Alarm
The call for testimony comes as reports spread of a massive breach of Discord data. A post on the dark web claimed that 2.1 billion Discord messages, voice logs, and user data had been dumped online, potentially exposing the chats of more than 39 million users.
On X, user 0HOUR amplified the leak while tying it directly to the Kirk assassination: “All of Discord was hacked all chatlogs dumped. 2.1B threads. Say his name. Charlie Kirk!”
The overlap between online radicalization and real-world violence is now a growing focus of lawmakers, with Comer pointing to Kirk’s murder as a wake-up call for Washington.

Growing Scrutiny on Gaming and Streaming Platforms
Discord, Twitch, and Steam have already come under heavy fire in the aftermath of Kirk’s murder. Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old charged with assassinating Kirk, was linked to Discord communities, reportedly in a relationship with a man transitioning to a transgender female active in the furry scene. Online chatter also suggested Robinson engraved video game references on bullet casings used in the attack, fueling criticism of how gaming culture intersects with radical politics.
Meanwhile, Twitch host Hasan Piker and streamer Destiny have faced backlash for inflammatory comments about the killing, prompting Elon Musk to call their rhetoric “incitement to murder.” Steam also drew attention after users highlighted violent mods tied to political figures, further pushing lawmakers to demand accountability.
