David Zaslav Licenses DCEU Movies To Netflix

Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav licenses out a bunch of DCEU movies to Netflix including Man of Steel, Batman vs. Superman, Joss Whedon’s Justice League, and more.

“Take a journey through the DC Extended Universe when these films hit Netflix on December 1!” announced Netflix.

The move follows Zaslav licensing out other HBO content to Netflix, which I’ve heard somewhere ticked off HBO execs. The content includes Band of Brothers, Six Feet Under, Insecure, Baller, and Dune.

It’s also known that when the DC shows were at The CW, that The CW network itself didn’t make any money, but all the profits came from licensing deals.

WB tried making that DC app work and, I think, having DC TV exclusive to HBO Max, but that didn’t work out. The CW has also since been sold and all the DC shows have been canceled save for Superman & Lois which looks to be in its last season (and sounds a mess).

Zack Snyder fans should be happy

HBO Max has also been branded as Max, which I think was done so as to not hurt the overall HBO brand, as I have been told David Zaslav is prepping Warner Bros. Discovery for a takeover.

We also have to assume that if Netflix is licensing content from Warner Bros. it is doing pretty well for them. Likewise on the flipside, if WBD is giving away DC and HBO content, it must not have been doing all that much for Max. It has been said Wonder Woman 1984 didn’t do a thing to increase subscriptions and those that apparently did sign up to watch, most of them canceled.

The bonus for DC fans that the DCEU is on Netflix is that the Snyder fans can continue to hope Netflix will buy Zack Snyder’s Justice League and continue the brand. Hey, who knows what Zaslav will do, and if Netflix does see a huge amount of views, they have a boatload of cash and Zack Snyder seems to be happy there with Rebel Moon and such.

Regarding why the four-hour Zack Snyder Justice League cut isn’t on Netflix, I think part of Zack’s deal is that he made it for HBO Max so it might be staying exclusive to Max or it has some sort of timetable attached to it.

DCEU on Netflix:

  • Man of Steel
  • Batman v. Superman
  • Suicide Squad
  • Wonder Woman
  • Justice League
  • Birds of Prey
  • Wonder Woman: 1984
  • The Suicide Squad
