‘The Acolyte’ Star Amandla Stenberg Deletes Instagram; Raises Questions About Timing and Motive

Star Wars fans can kiss Amandla Stenberg’s Instagram account goodbye.

Amandla Stenberg appears to have deleted her Instagram account without warning, leaving fans confused and raising new questions about the lingering fallout from The Acolyte.

There was no announcement, no explanation, and no record of when the deletion happened. The account is simply gone, and there’s virtually no online reporting on it.

Even stranger, Google’s AI search results are now directing people to a fan-run page that states “NOT AMANDLA,” adding another layer of confusion to an already messy situation.

The timing also comes as The Acolyte showrunner Leslie Hedland responded to the show’s cancellation and, similar to Stenberg, blamed the fans.

No Trace of Her Verified Account

Stenberg’s verified Instagram page was active throughout The Acolyte’s release and the backlash that followed. She posted heavily during that period, including the controversial rage-twerking music video and multiple defensive posts aimed at critics and fans.

That history makes the sudden disappearance even more noticeable. Without a statement from Stenberg or her team, it’s impossible to know whether this was a quiet exit, a reaction to continued criticism, or related to Headland’s comments.

Friends with Dafne Keen

There’s also a social element in play, as The Acolyte co-star and friend Dafne Keen posted Instagram photos in New York with Stenberg just a few weeks ago.

Keen still has her account, while Stenberg’s has vanished, creating an odd contrast in visibility between the two actresses. Keen’s tags for Stenberg no longer appear in the posts.

A History of Blaming Fans Over The Acolyte

Stenberg has a public record of pushing back against criticism and tying The Acolyte’s failure to fan reaction. Back in August 2024, she addressed the show’s cancellation by pointing to what she described as hostility and prejudice from parts of the Star Wars community.

She framed the failure as something rooted in the fan response rather than the creative direction of the series. The tone of those comments didn’t sit well with viewers, and they resurfaced again during the show’s cancellation announcement and again recently with Headland’s comments.

Given that backdrop, the deletion of her Instagram — her most active platform during the controversy — comes with an unavoidable sense of timing, even if the motive remains unknown. Perhaps she just wants to put The Acolyte behind her, just like all the Star Wars fans.

Stenberg’s Future Projects Remain Active

Despite the disappearance from Instagram, Stenberg has several projects underway.

She plays a princess in Gina Prince-Bythewood’s film adaptation of Children of Blood and Bone, one of the actress’s biggest upcoming roles.

According to IMDb, she is also currently filming and providing the voice for the animated feature Wildwood from Travis Knight.

In addition, she is set to appear in Golf Gods as a character named Michael.
