The newly released Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer may have just spoiled a major piece of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2.
A shot from the trailer appears to show Spider-Man receiving the key to New York City, and the person presenting it looks to be Liza Colón-Zayas.
The scene has sparked instant speculation because it seems like she could be playing the mayor of NYC in the movie.
That stands out for an obvious reason. Wilson Fisk is currently the mayor of New York in Daredevil: Born Again, and Marvel says Season 2 premieres March 24 on Disney+. Meanwhile, Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters July 31, 2026.
Spider-Man Trailer Raises A Big Fisk Question
The trailer footage shows Spider-Man being honored in what looks like an official city ceremony. If Liza Colón-Zayas is indeed playing the mayor, that could mean Fisk is no longer in office by the time Brand New Day takes place.
Marvel and Sony have not officially identified her role. Deadline only previously confirmed that Colón-Zayas joined the cast of Spider-Man: Brand New Day without naming who she plays.
Still, based on the footage, the theory is easy to understand. If Spider-Man is getting the key to the city from a different mayor, then Fisk may be finished as New York’s top political power by the end of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2.
Could Brand New Day Be Spoiling Daredevil?
That is the big question.
If the movie takes place after the events of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, the trailer may have accidentally revealed part of where Fisk’s story is heading. At the very least, it suggests his grip on City Hall might not last.
Of course, there are other possibilities. Colón-Zayas could be playing another city official and not the mayor at all. The scene could also be edited in a way that hides the full context.
It’s also known that due to various rights issues that D’Onofrio’s Wilsin Fisk can’t appear in films and only television, so this would be a way around it.
But on the surface, it definitely looks like the trailer may have tipped Marvel’s hand.
Fisk Is Still Central To Daredevil: Born Again Season 2
Everything Marvel has released for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 continues to center on Fisk’s hold over New York. Recent coverage and Marvel’s official season page both position him as a major force in the new season, with the story continuing his reign as mayor heading into the March 24 premiere.
That is why the Spider-Man footage is raising eyebrows. If Brand New Day is set after Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, then fans may already be looking at a clue that Fisk’s time in office is coming to an end.
The trailer also may reveal big clues about Sadie Sink and potential big spoilers.
