Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again is no longer trying to hide what it’s doing.
In a new interview, the Season 2 creative team openly acknowledged that viewers will see parallels to Donald Trump and ICE in the new episodes.
That comes after Season 1 already failed to break onto Nielsen’s Top 10 streaming charts, despite launching with a two-episode premiere on Disney+.

Marvel says the Trump and ICE comparisons are real
Entertainment Weekly reports that Season 2 leans into Wilson Fisk’s authoritarian grip over New York, with his anti-vigilante task force operating in a way the outlet directly compares to ICE.
The series includes scenes involving black-uniformed agents, cages, raids, unmarked vans, and the roundup of people off the street.
Showrunner Dario Scardapane admitted the real-world comparisons became obvious while finishing the season, saying that in post-production, things moved into an “art-imitates-life place.”
Executive producer Sana Amanat also embraced the angle, framing it as a story about an autocratic figure using the system against marginalized communities.

They even pointed to historical invasions and political strong-arming
Scardapane didn’t stop at Trump comparisons.
According to EW, he said one restaurant raid scene was meant to echo the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974, while another abduction sequence was described as an homage to Fruitvale Station.
He also said autocrats “follow a script,” referencing figures such as Nero, Pinochet, and Franco. That tells you exactly where the creative mindset is with this show.
So this isn’t fans reading too much into it. Marvel’s own people are now out there explaining the political subtext and basically confirming it.

Season 1 already showed fans weren’t buying in
That’s the bigger problem for Marvel.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 failed to chart on Nielsen’s Top 10 list of original streaming shows, which multiple entertainment outlets noted made it the first live-action MCU Disney+ series not to do so.
Disney had touted 7.5 million views in the first five days, but the Nielsen performance told a different story about sustained audience pull.
For a character with years of built-in goodwill from the Netflix series, that is a bad sign. Especially when Marvel needed Born Again to look like a win.

Fans are worn out on the message-first approach
This is where Marvel keeps missing the point.
People didn’t show up for Daredevil because they wanted another lecture wrapped in superhero packaging. They wanted a strong street-level story, good characters, and the kind of grounded intensity that made the original series work.
Instead, Marvel keeps turning its shows into topical commentary, then acts surprised when the audience tunes out. That disconnect is getting harder to ignore as Disney+ viewership across Marvel has cooled and the MCU’s momentum is nowhere near what it used to be.

Marvel is saying the quiet part out loud
The most telling part is that Marvel isn’t even pretending this is accidental anymore.
The studio’s own producers are out promoting the Trump and ICE angle before the season even drops. That may play well with entertainment media, but it also risks pushing away more viewers who are already tired of politics being shoved into every franchise.
Season 2 premieres March 24th on Disney+. Marvel will soon find out if doubling down on the message helps, or if it turns off even more of the remaining audience.
