Scooby-Doo on Netflix has found its Daphne, as Mckenna Grace has been cast in the live-action origin series from Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television. She is the first major role announced for the eight-episode show.
The casting gives fans their first real look at how this new take on Scooby-Doo is coming together.
The actress posted on Instagram in response to the news: “Oh my jeepers😭💜 I can’t believe life is real I could cry all over again just looking at this announcement. So thankful, SO excited. 🚙🔎💜”
Grace Plays Daphne In Origin Story
Grace will play Daphne in the reimagined series, which tells the origin story of how Mystery Inc. first formed.
The show follows Shaggy and Daphne during their final summer at camp. The two old friends get pulled into a strange case involving a lost Great Dane puppy that may have witnessed a supernatural murder. That puppy, of course, is Scooby-Doo.
They team up with Velma, described as pragmatic and science-minded, and a new kid named Freddy. Together, they investigate the mystery that draws them into a nightmare and tests their friendships.

Creative Team Behind Scooby-Doo On Netflix
The series comes from Midnight Radio, Berlanti Productions, and Warner Bros. Television. Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg (Cowboy Bebop) wrote the project and serve as showrunners.
Appelbaum and Rosenberg executive produce with André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner via Midnight Radio. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman executive produce for Berlanti Productions under the company’s Warner Bros. TV deal. WBTV serves as the studio.
Netflix gave the show a script-to-series commitment after landing it in a competitive situation last spring.
Mckenna Grace’s Recent Roles
Grace recently appeared in Paramount’s Regretting You. She will next be seen in Scream 7 and The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, which releases in November.
Her casting signals that Netflix and Berlanti Productions are aiming for a recognizable young lead as Scooby-Doo moves into live-action television for the first time.
More casting announcements are expected as production moves forward.
