Gen V Season 2 Finale Bombs as Eric Kripke’s Politics Take a Toll

The Gen V Season 2 finale failed to make Nielsen’s streaming charts, a stunning drop for The Boys spinoff once touted as a major hit for Amazon Prime Video.

Despite early hype and positive trade coverage, the series appears to have collapsed in viewership, aligning with mounting criticism of The Boys creator Eric Kripke’s political messaging and the show’s controversial “Elon Musk goat” scene.

Gen V Falls Off the Chart

According to Nielsen, Gen V Season 2 didn’t even register on the top 10 Originals chart for the week of October 20–26, 2025 — the same week its finale was released on October 22.

Nielsen also measures every available episode, which means nobody binge-watched the series.

At the bottom of that list sat Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building, which drew 349 million minutes viewed. That means Gen V pulled in less than that total — a shocking result for a high-profile superhero property backed by Amazon’s biggest franchise.

The decline is especially glaring given that Variety and other outlets promoted the Gen V premiere as a “success” earlier in the season. However, that initial bump came from three episodes released at once, obviously artificially boosting the numbers.

Once the show switched to single weekly episode drops, audience interest evaporated. Episode 4 — the first to be released by itself — already failed to chart on Nielsen, signaling the collapse to come.

By the time the finale aired, the drop-off was complete. Gen V wasn’t even competitive with mid-tier streaming titles, an embarrassing performance for a supposed tentpole series.

Politics, Controversy, and Fatigue

The decline also coincides with growing fan backlash toward showrunner Eric Kripke’s increasingly political tone.

In recent interviews, Kripke admitted The Boys Season 5 will center on what he described as “an underground resistance against a fascist government” — a not-so-subtle jab at Donald Trump and his supporters.

That rhetoric follows the outrage over Gen V’s now-infamous scene featuring a goat named “Elon Musk” being violently killed on-screen.

Many fans viewed it as an intentional shot at the billionaire X owner, especially given Kripke’s long history of mocking conservatives. The message was loud and clear.

Franchise In Trouble

With Gen V Season 2 underperforming and The Boys Season 5 confirmed to be the final season, the once-dominant franchise may be nearing its end.

Kripke himself has already admitted that future spinoffs — like The Boys: Mexico, Vought Rising, and Diabolical — depend entirely on viewership. And right now, those numbers aren’t on his side.
