Dwayne Johnson Confirms ‘Jumanji 3’ Has Started Filming, Says It’s the Final Movie

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson confirmed that Jumanji 3 has officially started filming in Los Angeles, marking the beginning of what he says will be the franchise’s final movie.

Production Begins in Los Angeles

Last week, Johnson told The Hollywood Reporter that production on the sequel would begin within three weeks and that Jake Kasdan would return to direct. He also joked about Kevin Hart’s absence before clarifying that the full cast would reunite once again.

Now, just days later, Johnson announced that cameras are officially rolling. The actor shared on Instagram that the cast gathered in Los Angeles for the first table read, with production also taking place in the city — a first for the modern Jumanji films, which were previously shot in Hawaii and Atlanta.

Johnson Calls It the Final Chapter

Johnson described the movie as a massive and heartfelt adventure that will serve as the perfect ending for the beloved franchise.

He confirmed that the new film will be the final installment and teased that it includes a nod to the original 1995 Jumanji starring Robin Williams. A prop from that film — the dice from the original board game — will reportedly appear as part of his character’s costume.

Returning Cast and Director

Karen Gillan confirmed her return as Ruby Roundhouse, sharing photos and video from the table read featuring Johnson, Gillan, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black back together.

Jake Kasdan returns to direct and co-write with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg, continuing the creative team behind the previous two films.

Release Date and Franchise Legacy

Jumanji 3 hits theaters December 11, 2026, from Sony Pictures. The movie follows Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) and Jumanji: The Next Level (2019), which together grossed nearly $2 billion worldwide.

Johnson hinted that the story will bring the series full circle while celebrating the legacy of Robin Williams’ original film, which started the Jumanji phenomenon nearly 30 years ago.
