R-Truth’s WWE Return at Money in the Bank Sparks ‘Work’ Debate

R-Truth’s WWE Return at Money in the Bank Sparks 'Work' Debate

R‑Truth shocked the crowd at Money in the Bank, returning unannounced and hitting John Cena with the WWE title belt, helping Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso win.

The moment quickly became controversial, with many questioning whether his recent exit announcement was part of a long-term storyline or legit.

Last week, R‑Truth, real name Ron Killings, announced his release from WWE in a heartfelt message posted to social media: “I’m sorry to inform you all. I just got released from WWE. I want to thank WWE for the ride, but MOSTLY I want to thank each and EVERYONE OF YOU who was along for the ride, Thank you for all the love, support, and appreciation you have given me over the years. Thank you.”

Triple H Claims It Was “Part of the Show”

WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H addressed the questions in the post-show Money in the Bank press conference, stating:

“I love the question. You enjoying the show? It’s all part of the show, man.”

Triple H’s vague response led some to assume it was all a scripted return, though not everyone’s buying it.

Sean Ross Sapp: “Not a Work”

Wrestling reporter Sean Ross Sapp pushed back hard on the “work” theory. Sapp previously confirmed Killings’ exit was legit. In a tweet following Money in the Bank, Sapp said it wasn’t a work, and Killings and the WWE put together a deal at the last minute:

There is not one person in WWE behind the scenes claiming that the R-Truth contract expiration was a work. Not one. Not even an “it could have been.”

A lot of people were very upset he was gone. Many had direct, emotional conversations with R-Truth. He wasn’t happy that it happened. Obviously everyone like that is very happy about it now, especially when it comes to what it could mean for them in a similar situation.

Not only did R-Truth announce his own departure (it wasn’t “broken” by a website), WWE clarified that it was a contract expiration and not a release. Then other contract expiration notifications were made.

Probably about the only thing WWE could have done worse than letting R-Truth go was to lie to the entire roster and staff about letting the most beloved guy on the roster go.

Working to find out details on the return, but @PWInsidercom says the deal was put together in the last few days.

Find out more on Raw

Following Money in the Bank, the official WWE X account also tweeted out new Ron Killings merchandise, which has led to fans speculating the “R-Truth” persona has been dropped in favor of “Ron Killings.”

We’ll likely learn more on Monday Night Raw, airing at 8pm EST on Netflix.

Another theory is that WWE kept Killings’ return under wraps—even from the locker room and Killing himself—before re-signing him last-minute.
