Dafne Keen says she is proud of her friend, Amandla Stenberg, for how she handled the cancellation of The Acolyte, the one-and-done Star Wars series on Disney+.
What did Dafne Keen say?
While wowing at the Saturn Awards last weekend, Screen Rant asked about the cancellation of The Acolyte, and Dafne Keen replied:
“It’s definitely, I think, overwhelming for all of us. I think we were all very proud of what we created. I know I’m very proud [of my character], I was very proud of how my friend Amandla handled the situation. And honestly, I’m a huge nerd myself, so I was just really happy that I got to play a Jedi. Bucket list ticked.”
How did Amandla Stenberg handle the cancellation of The Acolyte?
In addition to posting that rage-twerking video during the season where Dafne Keen responded in the comments, “Wokelyte unite!!,” Stenberg also blamed fans for the cancellation of the series.
Stenberg said she wasn’t surprised by the news of the cancellation because of all the “vitriol” surrounding the show from a certain segment of the fandom, that being who she thinks is to blame with the right-wing audience.
Later, a Disney exec would confirm The Acolyte was canceled because no one watched. It’s been confirmed the series is the second least-watched Star Wars show on Disney+. We can also add it’s likely responsible for killing Skeleton Crew.
What’s next for Dafne Keen and Amandla Stenberg?
Dafne Keen stars in the horror thriller Night Comes, and according to IMDb, stars in Whistle, about a misfit group of unwitting high school students who stumble upon a cursed object, an ancient Aztec Death Whistle. They discover that blowing the whistle and the terrifying sound it emits will summon their future deaths to hunt them down. She’s also said she would be open to a return to the MCU.
Amandla Stenberg has recently been cast in Children Of Blood And Bone where she is playing a princess. IMDb also lists her as starring in Golf God, which is about a golf course inspector who is transported to a land where every home has its own golf course. He is expected to be the golf course inspector for all of them. There is a surprise ending to this fantasy with a talking book and a muse. Stenberg is also voicing a character in Travis Knight’s Wildwood.
