What happened?

The reboot of The Toxic Avenger got shelved last summer as rumors claimed it was “unreleasable.” However, those who saw the film at various horror film festivals have had good things to say. With 25 reviews, The Toxic Avenger has a 92% Rotten Tomatoes Score.

The general consensus from the reviews is that The Toxic Avenger remake embraces its absurdity, delivering a gory, over-the-top, and highly entertaining experience. Many reviewers praised Peter Dinklage’s dedication, the film’s practical effects, and its ability to blend outrageous humor with a surprising emotional core. It’s noted that fans of the original Troma film and schlocky, offbeat cinema will likely enjoy its unfiltered, chaotic fun.

Peter Dinklage wanted a release

Back in July of last year, Dinklage stated he still hoped it would get a release:

“No, I’m not a producer on it. I don’t know. I do want it to get out there into the world because it was a really big hit at Fantastic Fest in Austin, and Macon Blair, the writer/director who is also in The Thicket … He’s incredible. He’s one of my favorite people and favorite artists. So hopefully it will have its day in the toxic sun.”
